Written Reflection: The subject of my photo essay is the numerous and various flowers in the schools courtyard area. I selected this location and subject matter for several reasons: One being the fantastic lighting that emerges when taking pictures in the courtyard. Another reason was that being in spring time, the flowers were blooming and showcasing many aesthetically pleasing colors. This subject is important to me as it reminds me of my grandmothers home, as she has a great garden filled with flowers just like the courtyard. My grandmother has always been a role model to me, as well as always being an extremely caring person. The concept I am trying to portray in the photo is the physical beauty that comes from gardens and flowers, as there shapes and colors are such a grand sight to look at. The photos are arranged from individual photos of the flowers to pictures of a group of flowers. This can be interpreted in many different ways, but I see it as the idea of a team effort always being more important than an individual effort. Yes, the individual flower photos are pretty, but the real beauty comes from the photos of all different types of flowers and colors that they bring. I believe the photos that are strongest in the photo are the last few photos, as they showcase the various types of flowers. As far as composition, there are many components of photography that i integrated into my photos. I used viewpoint heavily, as I switched the point of view from being up close and focusing on one flower, to a more centrally focused photo. For lighting, I made sure to capture as much natural light as I could, to gather the best true beauty the flowers could show. When I edited my photos, I added a little bit of vibrance and brightness, to enhance the colors of the flowers. I also adjusted the levels, as well as cropping the photos to eliminate any distracting sights as well as focusing on the subject of the photo.
